Avoid drinking tap water in Ukraine, it is not dangerous but may contain a lot of chemicals,  just buy safer bottled water which will be delivered home. In services you find numerous companies delivering water.  Finally, except in the event of an emergency, doctor's appointments should be handled by contacting a hospital or policlinic beforehand, and in any case, it helps to learn some simple Russian/Ukrainian phrases to make the process simpler and faster.

Good to know:

Make sure you have some decent health and/or travel insurance prior to any trip or stay in Ukraine. Medical help in life-threatening situations is free and provided to anyone, but regular expenses must be paid out-of-pocket, and in any case, despite healthcare in Ukraine being free, gratuities or tips of as little as 100 hryvnias usually mean the difference between waiting 5 minutes or 5 hours to see a doctor or specialist. No special vaccinations are needed for travel to Ukraine and the country is not home to any snakes, spiders or other creatures that are poisonous to humans.

In cooperation with the Kiev Government Health Authority AMC- American Medical Centers has been approved to provide certified Ukrainian Residency Exams.

First aid

In a worst-case scenario, you might need to call for ambulance in Ukraine. To do so, dial the state emergency 103 ambulance hotline or call clinics such as Medikom or Boris which have their own ambulance fleets. You will most likely need to pay cash at the hospital for their services and then claim the amount from your insurance company. The prices are still reasonable at Boris  and Medikom but can stretch to a few hundred dollars or more per visit, especially if opting for the services of the American Medical Centers.
